Photoswitchable Organization and Dynamics in Synthetic Systems
The research aim of the group is to spatiotemporally control the adhesive interactions of synthetic minimal cells and their self-assembly and self-sorting by using visible light. These photoswitchable interactions offer non-invasive remote control over cell adhesions, enable us to assemble synthetic cells into multicellular consortia with high precision and regulate their interactions with other synthetic cells. The unique properties of these interactions, will allow us to regulate communication between synthetic cells, to trigger dynamic events such as migration and fusion, as well as to form consortia of synthetic cells, where different members contribute diverse functionality.
