Dr. Dieter Treichel is a patent and start-up manager and jointly responsible for the evaluation of the scientific background and economic potential of inventions from the Max Planck Society. Dieter Treichel studied biology at the Julius Maximilians University in Würzburg and at the State University of New York in Albany, USA. He finished his PhD thesis in Prof. Dr Peter Gruss’s group at the Max Planck Institute of Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen, focusing on molecular mechanisms during mouse embryonic development. Before joining Max Planck Innovation in 2004, Dieter Treichel worked as an investment manager for the Munich-based venture capital company FORUM Venture Capital AG and as a business development manager for two FORUM portfolio companies. In 2003, he moved to the Max Planck Society as the personal assistant to the president. In addition, he served from 2007 to 2010 as the CEO/CSO of the "RZPD" (Deutsches Ressourcenzentrum für Genomforschung GmbH), a spin-off company of the MPG together with the DKFZ and MDC.
